William Harvey holding his First Class Zoology degree certificate

Hi. I’m Will Harvey. English, Zoology graduate, CELTA-qualified English teacher.

Who I teach

Four kinds of learner. Four different plans.

Not sure which one you are? Say so on the form. Most people fit into two.

Exams

Exam preparation

IELTS, Cambridge B2 First and C1 Advanced, TOEFL. We start at your test date and plan backwards. We use past papers. We practise against the clock. We work hardest on the parts where you lose marks.

Work

Business English

Meetings, presentations, interviews, and emails that get a reply. We practise with your real documents and your real meetings. You can use it at work the next day.

Fluency

Everyday conversation

Speaking, listening and confidence. Phone calls, appointments, small talk, and how to disagree politely. You will stop planning each sentence before you say it.

Young learners

Children and teenagers

School support, GCSE years, and children starting school in English. Lessons are clear, structured and patient. I tell parents honestly how their child is doing.

How it works

Three steps. You decide at step three.

  1. Tell me what you need

Fill in the form below. It asks two things. What do you want to do in English? Why now? It takes five minutes, and those five minutes save us both a lot of time.

  2. A free 20-minute call

We talk on Zoom. I tell you what will work, how long it will take, and whether I am the right teacher for you. If another teacher suits you better, I will say so.

  3. Start lessons

Once or twice a week, whichever suits you. You get materials, homework, and a short written summary after every lesson, so you can see your progress.

Lessons

Online or in person. I prepare the same way for both.

Online

By Zoom, anywhere

Most of my teaching is online, and it works well. We share documents. I correct your English as we go and you keep the notes. I can record the lesson so you can watch it again.

  • 40 or 60-minute lessons
  • Individual or group tuition
  • Flexible times, in any time zone
  • Written notes after every session
  • All materials shared digitally
In person

Face to face in [EDIT: TOWN]

In person suits children, quiet speakers and small groups. I travel a reasonable distance. We can also meet somewhere quiet and public, like a café or a library.

  • At your home, your office or a library
  • Within [EDIT: TOWN] and the surrounding area
  • Good for children and teenagers
  • Small groups by arrangement

Single lessons

One to one, or in a small group. Online or in person. Please pay in advance.

All lessons are paid in advance.

Block of ten lessons

£400 / ten lessons

Book and pay in advance. Each lesson costs less, and ten lessons together is what makes the difference.

First call

Free / 20 minutes

No lesson. No sales pitch. We find out whether I am the right teacher for you.

Enquiry

Tell me what you need.

Please answer the two big questions as exactly as you can. The clearer your answer, the more useful my reply. I read every enquiry myself and I answer within two working days.

About you
Please tell me your name.
Please give an email address I can reply to.
The two questions that matter
Please write a sentence or two. This is the part I most need.
Please tell me what prompted this, even briefly.
Practicalities

Your answers come straight to my inbox. I keep them private. I will never add you to a mailing list.

Questions

The things people ask first.

What is CELTA, and does it matter?

CELTA is the Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. It is the main qualification for teaching English to adults. Examiners watched me teach real students and passed me. That is why it matters.

Do online lessons work as well as face to face?

For adults, yes. Often better. We share documents, you keep every correction, and nobody travels. Young children and very shy speakers usually do better in the same room. Tell me who you are and I will give you an honest answer.

How long will it take?

It depends on the distance between your English now and what you need to do with it. After the first call I will give you an estimate in weeks. If your deadline is too soon, I will tell you that as well.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Tell me a day before and we move the lesson free of charge. With less warning I charge for the lesson, because I have already prepared it. I am sensible about illness and emergencies.

Can you teach a small group or a team?

Yes. Groups of up to four work well when everyone is at a similar level and wants the same thing. Online costs £25 a person. Face to face costs £30. Tell me on the form who is in the group.

What if we are not a good fit?

I will tell you on the first call, and I will suggest something better. The wrong course wastes your money and my time.
